A typical day in the life of a floatie: My day started at 3:30 am. I got ready for my watch and went on deck. 2 hours later, at 6am, I’m ready to go back to bed. Sleeping wasn’t an option, but a 1 hour Power Nap was before breakfast. For me, that’s how my day started, but for others, they might have slept longer.
During the day, the floaties and I got to enjoy a normal day, if not for the jibing manoeuvre. Indeed, at 1pm, students were required to be on deck to jibe. It basically consists of pulling a lot on rope to change the sides of the square sails. Then, the day continued on until 4pm. We had to jive again. This time, only some people were required, because others had class. To finish the day off, we got to have a nice cosy Christmas movie.
I then went to sleep, but not for long, as I once again got woken up at 3:30 am the next day. And that’s a typical day for us! – written by Valerie H
