Hello family and friends,
Yesterday was a true community-building, feel-good kind of day. We tackled two major sail maneuvers that required all hands-on-deck, and it was great to see new floaties jump in and learn quickly with guidance from their peers and the DSST crew.
Student-led clubs are making a return this semester, and club leaders came prepared with engaging pitches to recruit new members. Opportunities include student council, the yearbook committee, and a variety of ongoing clubs such as fishing, baking, cinema, running, workout, Pilates, yoga, OS training, and more. These student leadership efforts are deeply appreciated by the faculty, as student-led activities are essential to creating meaningful memories for floaties beyond academics and sail training.
Our new chefs have been taking wonderful care of us. Lunch featured Shakshuka, followed by a classic German schnitzel plate for dinner. We also celebrated DSST crew member Sandra’s birthday, and belated birthdays for Simon, Grace and Lotte, with traditional birthday buckets and what may have been the biggest cake any of us have ever seen on a ship.
A good majority of floaties who had a rockier start upon departure have found (or re-found) their sea legs. Student council, alongside faculty member Jacquie, is busy planning Watch Olympics for tomorrow. Spirits are high as we look ahead to our upcoming arrival in Dominica, which we caught glimpses of this morning through cloudy skies.
