Every time we arrive at port, it feels like only a moment goes by before we are leaving again, and our departure from Bermuda this morning was no different, except this time we are all leaving with the understanding that the next time we see land will be after we have completed our North Atlantic crossing.

It was with this in mind that we returned to our routine at sea, with remaining semi-functional through seasickness becoming our major focus, alongside deciding on our own goals for this voyage and getting to know some of the new DSST crew that will be sailing with us. Given these challenges, I think that overall spirits are still incredibly high, with Colours this morning bringing us together to welcome JP onboard as part of our faculty and to celebrate Klava as the Irving Johnson of our previous voyage!! It is always amazing when we have the chance to recognize the people who go above and beyond to keep our community together, and it is without a doubt that Klava embodies this spirit. She consistently makes it her mission to ensure that no one is left behind and works tirelessly to bring some positive energy into every situation. To know Klava is to love her, and we are so incredibly lucky to be undertaking this voyage with her here. This started us off incredibly high, and carried us through the day and into the night, where the beautiful full moon lit our time on night watch.

Overall, this departure came with a renewed sense of drive and motivation onboard, with our attention being turned to safety preparations and our personal responsibilities for this voyage. Despite the seasickness that has come with once again being at sea, there is a shared commitment to making the most of this opportunity to build our experience and knowledge as sailors and applying ourselves as best we can to our classes. Everyone is exemplifying the spirit that we need to have going into this voyage – one of dedication, perseverance and resilience – and if today was any indication, I’d say that this momentum will surely carry us across the North Atlantic and safely to the Azores, where many of us are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces really soon!!

Lots of love, Anya
