Yesterday morning began with a talk from Danielle Southcott-CEO and founder of Veer, an award-winning company developing clean, wind-powered container vessels. The students were really interested in this initiative and asked wonderful questions. So much so that this discussion continued with many on our walk to the location for our Beach Olympics.

After some facepainting and watch huddles, each watch selected members for the events of the annual Semester 2 Watch Olympics (Beach edition). The games began with a highly competitive three way Tug O’ War, between watches 1,2,3 followed by  4,5,6. Up for grabs was a very valuable head start on the beach relay. The runners up with a race head start of 4 seconds were watch 2. While watch 5 gained a head start of 8 seconds with first place.

The relay race was a hilarious combination of digging for spoons, egg on spoons, a swim relay, three legged and wheelbarrow race, finishing off with a last leg of each watch carrying one member to the finish line. After a tight finish, watch 5 triumphed and are crowned the new carers of Guppy the fish. Well done to both Jacquie and the student council for such a successful morning!

The day wrapped up with some exciting shore leave activities such as diving and sandcastles on the beach. I think we all can say, today was one for the memory books. It was wonderful to see both old and new floaties settle into their watches and build that valuable bond for the semester and sails ahead.
