A bunch of us from the standing crew got half a day off and go to swim with the turtles.
Turtles! We all shriek when they appear alongside us, following a comically short boat ride from the pretty volcanic-sand beach. One by one we go over the side, into the clear water of another world. Fish and some twenty-five sea turtles of all sizes swim around and in between us. Such gentle graceful creatures! And they get so close – softly grazing a belly or an arm as they lazily but curiously look to see if their meal has arrived (the local villagers help preserve and feed them). It is chilly when we get back out into the air; and I think all of us want to stay a little longer. But we must nevertheless return to the ship, rejuvenated. Gaal, Able Seaman- Törn: 38523
