We took a tour of Ilhas Selvagen
Yesterday, we took a tour of Ilhas Selvagen. This ocean refuge, pirate treasure island, and one of the oldest nature reserves of Portugal is surrounded by a shelf to a depth of 200 m. The Selvagens Islands have a permanent team of wardens from Madeira Natural Park and only a handful of ships visit each summer. After returning from the island to warm soup and fresh baguettes, we indulged in our first swim call! Leaps from the bowsprit and soothing water temperatures are just what our group needed to refresh for the next leg of our journey. Today, we hope to get underway by sail alone, though it will be difficult after the wind change. All hands will be needed; working together in this way is always quite energizing to the crew.
