2024-12-07 _ Class Afloat – The best one-day port program of the trip

Yesterday we had the best one-day port program of the trip so far. After a chill morning, we had a hectic afternoon since the provisions arrived just before our tender to shore. Everyone on board worked as quickly as humanly possible to store all the food that arrived so we could get to land. A 20-minute bus ride later, we were greeted by about 40 young people between the ages of 8-16, all waving green and orange balloons. We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening playing football, chopping and munching sugarcane, sampling local snacks, helping to prepare katxupa for dinner, and getting to know our new friends. We showed-and-told a bit about life on the ship (Jacinto’s videos really helped), and they put on a funny skit using some floaties as extras. Two highlights of the evening were the capoeira demo and workshop, and the katxupa we ate for dinner. We couldn’t get enough of either!
